The Scent of a Womanby TerryGeeComment: A little too much hand in the picture, it really draws the attention away from the applicator (and, thus, the 'scent'). |

Hint of a Scentby NeuferlandComment: Mmm. Potpourri.
Why a comb? That seems odd somehow. It goes well with the layout in terms of colour, but in terms of "Why is there a comb in this picture?" I'm a little confused. |

Garlicby HavokComment: Mmm. Garlic.
Although I like the shot as is, for the sake of the topic, I might suggest a cut clove would have conveyed a more intense 'scent' feel. Certainly even uncut cloves have a scent, though, and it's a very appetizing layout you have as is. |

Feeding The Sensesby ToddhComment: I really don't care for the grainy look of this. It also took me a few moments to get the point, probably because there's so much emphasis on the pot lid, even though the reflection is a really interesting way to show the contents. Ultimately I think that means the image may be a little busy. Maybe if the pot was only shown in the reflection, and not directly at all? |

mexican restaurantby MiahComment: Unless your waiter had a BO problem, this isn't really the best of choices for the topic. |

The Path Before You IIby kyrielleComment: I'm looking at both right now, and this one is definitely an improvement. It doesn't look washed out (which the other did), and I do like that the lighting is not as even. I think I would have liked it better if the lit parts had been in the foreground and faded to shade in the background; this way looks slightly odd to me. But that would have probably been more problematic in terms of getting lighting.
This one also looks crisper, by the way. I don't know how much of that is lighting, but it looks overall like you got a crisper shot. Since your shutter speed is quicker on this one, I suspect you may have had a little inadvertant motion on the other.
The only way the other one wins out is it's a slightly better angle for the terms of the challenge. |

A breath of fresh air in the city...by FayechComment: I love this. The angle of light and the play of shadows across the wall, the reflection in the window, and the use of sepia tone are all wonderful details. I often don't care for duotone pictures, but in this case it seems completely natural. |

Pesticide...To The Extreme!by LauraKComment: This is at least the second "spider with a dark background" picture I've seen, and I've been confused both times as to why someone would feel this conveyed 'in the garden'. If the background were visibly gardeny, sure. But this could be anywhere.
It's a good shot; the lighting on the spider is good and it's a very well focussed close-up. It just doesn't do me topically. |

A glimpse of paradiseby colorosilenceComment: Hmm. I kinda like your idea, but I'm not sure whether or not it succeeded. A couple reasons. First, the topical angle -- not only is the thing we're directly looking towards flowers, but we're obviously outside, not in, the garden. I haven't been quite as strict about the latter as I could have been but does make the topical connection looser for me. Second... I think reversing the focus would've made more sense -- the sharp focus on the thing we're supposed to be looking toward, not the barrier. On the other hand, the focus on the barrier may be part of your statement. If so, I have to say I would've liked to have seen more of the barrier -- a shot from further away, basically. |
