Wonderful lighting and choice of subject to fi the challenge well. Carefull atention to focusing brings the detail out but, it also brings out the "speckles" of dust? in the dark area but perhaps that was beyond your control?

Excellent lighting, subject and DOF. The angle and the B&W really make te image. If I was being really picky I would say the light area of background at the top of the shot detract somewhat, but I'm not being picky. Very well done.

Top shot in my opinion. Composition, lighting, DOF, subject and apt for the title. Interesting and detailed. Can only be improved with additional processing, which of course you can't do for the challenge. A winer as far as I'm concerned, well done.

I didn't get a chance to vote during the challenge, sorry. I think the shot is very good technically. The DOF is ok, defining the look you were after as you said. The composition is good, the knife is carefully placed. If anything it looks a bit too "staged" if you see what I mean? There's no crumbs at all, the knife clean and polished. I agree with crabappl3, one or two jelly babies on the plate may have helped the idea along a bit?

Also, I'm no expert on lighting, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems a bit dull or flat, whatever the expression should be. I do know that the right light can make a or break a shot, I'm not saying it broken this one but it seems to lack some lustre, if that makes any sense and was of any help then you're welcome, if not then forget it, if you like it the way it is then that's what counts.

Can't belive your image didn't do better than it did. How many backlit flowers can you look at?? I did vote for the third place shot, that was fantastic. Having looked at other comments on your entry, the horizon is down a bit to the right but even so, I think you were rather hard done by. Great shot, keep trying.

A pleasing shot, I'd be very tempted to shoot it myself and the greyscale is the correct medium I think. But the shot laks a point of interest for the eye to rest on, following the line of trees.

I like this shot. The photographer has done well to get as much in to the shot without making it too distant. The light and the shadows are very pleasing. But somehow not quite dramatic enough. The shot also seems to lack somewhere for the eye to go to. If the path was leading you into the shot it would have been better.

The colours are wonderful and the silhouetted trees are great, but the shot seems to be leaning to the left, the trees are not vertical. Also the telegraph pole in my opinion detracts from the shot. Try moving position to eliminate unwanted detail from the shot.

I always like the shot that tries to be different from the obvious and this is one of those. Unfortunately, because of the low light and long exsposure required, it isn't sharp enough. There doesn't seem to be any of part which is pin sharp, the cup is just off I think? I still like the shot but it would have got a higher mark but for that.
