 Recreation Of IreneM's first entry "Over the Edge". However, I have not achieved the clarity or technical excellence of her image.

I could not believe how difficult it was to get the glass to break in a usable shape. I did learn that the cheap glass breaks better for this sort of thing. I found some "good" leaded crystal wine glasses on clearance at Marshal's for $2.00 each. One smack with a hammer (glass inside a plastic bag) and the good glass burst into about a gazillion pieces. All that was left was the base and stem. The cheap glass would break into large shards. Getting it to balance in position was a whole other headache.

I lit the white background, which was about 18 inches behind the table, from below with a single flash fired remotely. I had a small light from the front, shining down at approximately 45 degrees, diffused through a homemade soft box of sorts (basically shining through gift wrap tissue paper). The fact that most of the glass is gone really helped with controlling reflections.

Irene shot her image in her kitchen. If I had done that, I would still be in the doghouse. Pretty messy operation!

I think that it is pretty cool that this got the red ribbon, the same as Irene's original shot. Thanks again all.

Well caught! I like the splashing blobs all around the glass, and the red drip. I find the line between surface and background too harsh though.

well this whole set up is over the top...all the color drops the angle of the glasses. Would be curious as to how many glasses were used in this set up...very well done

Technically strong. The red drip adds interest. I don't think the black table helps here; it draws the eye down a little too strongly.
