Tried a few variants on my first entry and didn't care for any of them. So I went wandering through some other portfolios and came upon suemack's first entry, which looked like fun to try with my macro-type toys. Used a discarded feather from my parrot and got lucky when several Skipper butterflies decided to dine on the same flower I was already photographing. The feather is thus a much smaller part of the composition here but I couldn't bring myself to not include the Skippers.
Had the 2x teleconverter on. Painterly sort of effect is from the high ISO the camera chose.
PP - tonemapped in qtpfsgui (pregamma 0.697, mantiuk method, contrast mapping 0.1, saturation factor 1.029, detail factor 1), merged with original in luminousity mode at 20% transparency, cropped, reduced noise, slight vignette blur to soften remaining background noise, burned feather a bit, cloned out stray bits of flowers and brightish bit on lower left, levels, white balance, increased saturation and contrast, shifted greens greener and decreased saturation on them, resized, sharpened, blurred a bit by hand, added border. |

Lovely picture but I don't really feel it's about the feather, which was the case in the original. |
