I think the focus on the flower and blur of the weeds only adds MORE opposition. Now we have flower/weeds AND focused/unfocused. And anyway, people really do tend to dote on the flower more than the weed. It really shows peoples views on each element: they adore the flower and ignore the weeds. Anyway. I love it. I think that the "rule of thirds" would ruin this shot. Gorgeous gorgeous work.. blows mine out of the water.

Thank you so much for your comments - your thoughts were exactly what I was going for. Thanks again.

Those are my two cents, anyway (or was it two dollars by now? I'll stop rambling.)

Nice focus, colour & DOF. It's not really saying "opposites" to me though.

This is a beautiful shot of a flower and the opposite of weeds is a good idea but I can't see the weeds that well. It just looks like regular greenery behind the flower to me, maybe if you had a flower that was more surrounded by weeds, the classic battle? As is I started at a 4 but am raising to a 6

What is a weed anyway?

I like the colors and sharpness

Beautiful colors and DOF. I like the darkness at the center of the flower. The weeds don't come through as an example of opposition. A different view might be more appropriate for the challenge if you were to maintain the subject, but this photo is really lovely.

Nice "centred" shot that also works well for this challenge..the colour contrast adds to the overall feel of the image. You may have had criticism for your shallow DOF putting the weeds being out of focus??.. (as they are part of the subject)..but no such criticism from me.. it doesn`t spoil my enjoyment of this excellent image

if it were focused on more than just the flower it may look more like opposites

They are the same thing, just growing in the wrong place. lol
05/13/2004 08:35:41 AM
enough with flowers already, that's not an opposite either.

Would work well for "Centered Composition"! I think that the difference in sharpness between the flower and the weeds makes it an unfair fight between the two "opposites", so the effect is a little lost.

Nice DOF. Interesting perspective, though for this title I would expect the weeds to be a little more prominent.

the title gives ewqual standing to both, the image to the flower. based on the image, it does not meet the challenge.
