Well. Not what I had hoped for this; I suppose more people favored a remarkably narrow definition of "portrait" than I'd expected.

Thank you all for your comments, and votes. Next time I'll swim closer to the mainstream.

Beautiful! A dark image like this suffers from "voter monitor calibration". On my monitor its perfect! I wonder if everyone could see the flags.

1 - sorry ... doesn't make it for me in this category

Wonderful motion capture. Would have preferred catching her on the front of the turn, perhaps. And that guy scratching his head is a most unfortunate distraction! :)

this just doesn't work for me as a portrait...the out fo focus dancer and the audience members in the front are very distracting

Interesting effect , show well the movement of the dancer. The warm colors gives this a nice mood. I find the public's heads somewhat distracting here, i had cloned them out.

Details: Portraiture is a classic photographic form that typically captures the face of a person. Have a go at creating a portrait.
Far from clasic!

Painterly and dreamy, lovely use of color, shape, and movement. The framing is wonderful. - 9

A great idea for this challenge. I like how the heads of the people add to the fact that this is a live performance. My only suggestion would be to have something in focus - even if it's just the stage. It looks a little blurry to me. However, I love the colours. Good luck!

this is not a portrait.

I like the softness and the flair. Would have like to see a more up close and personal shot. BOL

I like this, but would not think of it as a portrait. Wish we could see her face.

Nice idea. Too much black, empty space at the top, though.

Great movement, I love these shots. The heads certainly give it a 'performance' feel but it would have been wonderful if you could take some of these at a rehersal or something where you could work closer in. You could use this shot as a key to open that particular door :)

Captures the movement of the dancer very well and the inclusion of the heads of some of the audience adds to the feeling of a performance. The low key lighting adds to the effect too.
