 Wooo-hooooo! A RED!!!

Thanks so much for the votes and comments... Especially the comments - they make this whole photography thing so good!

This is the kind of detail that a year ago I would have walked by without ever imagining it's worth a click. I guess I've learned some stuff at DPC... Also, I have just recently learned to do tone adjustments simply using Curves, with subtle and different changes to each of the RGB channels. I think this helped a lot generate the "aged" look in this image. And, of course, NYC is a city full of character, perfect for this challenge.

BTW, I almost submitted to "Architecture" instead:

I'm very glad I went with my gut feeling and submitted this one instead!

Great shot! Geez, I rarely look at the front page these days so I missed this one. A belated congrats to a fellow New Yorker. I'm guessing you live up by Toms somewhere since a lot of your street shots are Upper West Siders? Probably a good place to shoot, still.

One of my favourites of the challenge, great image which works very well simplt because of the contrast of the centred and repretitive image with the stromg leading diagonals that the stairs provide. Possibly could have done with a little more contrast but I am guessing that you kept it a touch muted to add to the 'aged' look of the shot
