Greetings from the Critique Club

Initial thoughts/My opinion
What a nice technical detail of a everyday item, very good light and everywhere sharp where it should be. The red thread is a wonderful guiding line through the image. Background unnecessarily grainy.

Content/Composition
Great content, has a woow-factor due to the close-up, the red thread and the sharpness. The sewing foot (not sure if the term is right) is very shinny, maybe a little too much though.
This shininess is a little disturbed by the rotguts (again, hope the term is right): of course they come from usage and belong there, but your submission depicts technique rather then usage.
The orientation of the head is just right: it's good that you show it as a whole and didn't crop out parts. Also the chosen orientation gives the image depth: it's anything else but flat. Well done!
I also like the way the light is set from one side while still having nothing in a dark shadow. Everything of importance is well visible, even the upper screw.
The large white reflections on the lower screw and the foot are a little too strong IMO, but that's only minor. I do like the bright star at the very tip of the foot: might have been a nice focal point too.
The background, including the white part at the right is not as good as the foreground: the brownish colour of the back doesn't fit well and it's too grainy. The white portion seems to be a trough, but it can not be seen clearly and thus leaves the viewer alone with an open question. Placing a black or coloured pasteboard around the important parts of the machine might have been better.

Camera work -technically
Well done, especially the use of a small aperture works very well: everything is well focused and only the very end of the metal plate is slightly out of focus. Great job.
Exposure is also just right on the foreground(beside the few too strong reflections, but I count these to composition). Maybe a little shorter exposure would have reduced the background problems though.

Still, you sure know how to handle your camera.

Digital Processing - Technical
Also well done, especially not oversharpened. Neat-image or alike would probably not helped a lot with the background because you would have lostthe crisp look of the main part.
I'm not sure, but it looked to me as if you increased the saturation of red to strengthen the red thread. Maybe slightly overdone, looks a little unnatural at the top.

Fits the challenge
Of course it does!

While there is now a rather long list of negative points I made, don't take them too serious: compared to the overall concept and quality they are only minor.

Good luck for you further submissions

What a great idea. Very well focused. Should come in the top 10.

Nice work. I really like it when someone can make something as boring as a sewing machine interesting to look at. Red thread did it for me. Background to right is distracting. 8.

Great capture of the metallic sheen and the texture of the thread. This macro view brings out details you would never notice in years of sewing.

Great shot, I feel it is just a little bit too sharp but still very good, 8

Nice contrast with the red. It is hard to avoid the reflection of the flash, but you did a good job!

The red thread has a good effect in this photo. Being on that sews or used to
I can see that you have captured the small details on the sewing machine &

Good idea. background seems a little noisy. Maybe if the photo was b&w, except for the string, which could be left in red, would really make this shot even better than what it reallly is.

This is probably one of five great shots in this challenge. At least one of about five that I like.
Great work.
