I was taking pictures of this brightly lit cloud when I saw these gulls headed my way. This was the second of two panning shots of this one. When I saw how the bird lined up with the blown-out hole in the cloud I decided to try and turn a "mistake" into an opportunity.

Shot on auto mode with -1.0Ev Exposure Compensation and spot-metering on.

Cropped to square, used RGB Curve for a contrast boost and the Blue/Yellow curve to change the color from searing whites to fiery yellows. Reduced, but no added sharpening since it created haloing around the wings. Bordered to make it display a little bigger.

I can't believe I have choosen two of your cloud images to comment about, but I just like clouds.
I have browsed through all of your portfolio, and this is my favorite shot, except for the one of the "San Fransico Golden Gate".
I love the leading opening light, drawing the birds towards it, just so magical.....MAGICAL.....

There's light, but I don't see a tunnel. It's also a bit speckled.

Good composition, a bit noisy though. The light is too overexposed in the cloud and the image has a green cast to it, but it's still good and atmospheric.

I like the bird flying into the light like thru an invisible tunnel. Great clouds! The colors are a bit odd - I would think warm colors would be more reassuring.

Beautiful feeling to this shot, so elegant. Love how you capture the bird.
Border works and enhances.
I am not sure I like the use of color though, and that over-contrasted blotch in the lower right hand side of the clouds is a bit distracting.

Nice shot with the bird and all, but that white spot is too blown out for my taste.
