I shot this photo while walking out of this art exhibit at school. I was so attracted to how the rock reflected the sun light. I said to myself, "That's beautiful...." The shot is mostly centered on the idea that beauty comes in all shapes, color, and sizes. However, there is beauty of life, and there is beauty of death. In the photo the surroundings dipict the beauty of life and the phosporus tree/ rock is the beauty of death.

The shot was a straight shot. There wasn't too much to touch up. First I improved the color balance. Next, I made it softer with the "softer" opition within "Microsoft Picture It!" I resized and it was ready for the net.

Nice clearly focused shot, but I don't get the connection to beauty - the challenge topic. Your title trys to explain, but because I don't know what I am viewing it isn't clear to me. Keep trying and you will do better in your next challenge.

The bright light in this picture makes it seem over exposed - everything is a bit washed out. Wish your subject (rock? lava?) was not cropped at the bottom.

I think this piece of wood would of been much more interesting and beautiful when it was part of a living tree. I'm not sure what to make of this photo. I seem to be distracted by the rocks and plants cut off the sides.

Beauty is a subjective thing, I know. In my scoring and comments I'm trying to score based on NOT whether or not I would think a particular subject beautiful, but on whether the photographer has succeeded in creating a beautiful photo. I look for the elements of color, lines, focus and dof interest, lighting, and a certain element of grace and lovlieness. I'm looking for a unique and creative appeal for the highest scorers. The description says to create a photo that makes the viewer think "that's beautiful", so it will undoubtedly be very subjective. (This is what I'm putting at the start of all of my comments, and I hope it is helpful.)

That being said, this is an interesting choice of subject. The shot itself, while technically okay, seems pretty straighforward and unimaginative. It does not seem to work to bring out the real beauty of this wood. It seems like you saw the wood, stopped, took a shot and went on. As a viewer, I don't feel like a lot of effort went into trying to find a way to convey the real beauty in the subject. I may be totally wrong, so please don't be offended. I'm trying to explain my reaction to the photo.

Very interesting rock. Volcanic? I think a different time of day (maybe early evening) would have enhanced some of the textures on the rock. As is, the image appears flat from the overhead light. Interesting take on the challenge. Very unique!
