Shot in my dining room with a candle and one spot light bounced off the right wall. It's possible the stove top light at the other end of the room (behind me) me also contributed. Adjusted the curves in PhotoShop to add a little more warmth.

I tried eliminating the flare on the candle, but the colors in the rest of the photo suffered as a result. This was one of the first photos shot in this composition and ended up being the best.

My first impression of this is that it is too dark. There are also quite a few competing subjects. I think that you should eliminate some of them. That might make it lose some of the emotional meaning for you, but could make it a stronger image for the viewer. The lace on the table and background also contribute to the busy nature of the shot. The whole frame is really filled up with things to look at which leaves one wondering exactly what the real subject is. I would try a vertical shot with maybe a black background/table with only a candle and the stack of letters, possibly also a photo or an open letter if it is lit well enough to be seen. The flowers aren't really needed though. Make sure that the letters are well lit and then the light can fade out into the surrounding darkness.

Good production. Very close to the theme.

Evocative. Perhaps if you had ambiantly lit the rest of the objects, that red glare on the candle wouldn't be there??

In my opinion this is a hard thing to do to be just a little wider and go ahead and capture that frame with your "star" not being as much in your face. Very courageous and this is a very lovely picture.
