Just off-center, there appears to be a whitish "hole" which suggests that this pile of lychees isn't very deep. For what this image meanss to me, I'd like to imagine pounds and pounds of fruit, so the hole breaks the spell. But all told, this is a beautiful photo. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/12/2002 07:45:00 AM | Sun Kisses by ShiiizzzamComment: I love the cloudy sky and the mixture of blue and yellow. The water droplets are sensuous and add a reminder of what makes lemons so great. I'd like to see a brighter yellow, a slightly higher color saturation. |
| 09/12/2002 01:43:00 PM | Lemon Dropby joannsComment: Beautiful yellow hue ... nicely consistent. The particular yellow you used supports the lemon concept wonderfully (as opposed to, say, buttercups or some other yellow thing). I like your light and shadows, the dry and wet, the smooth and dimpled -- all very nice contrasts, held together by a central theme. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/12/2002 07:36:00 AM | A Long and 'Rinding' Roadby chrisabComment: This one joyously leapt from the screen for me. Beautiful balance of color (and bold saturation, particularly on the blueberry!) ... I like the dialouge of yellow-and-blue-make-green. I like your transition from sharp to blurry, from speckled to smooth; I like the repetition of curves, both natural and carved -- and there, the contrast of natural and enhanced. This photo is, itself, a converstation of comparison and contrast. To me, this is either a 9 or 10 (points off, maybe for the slightly overblown specular highlight on the lemon). | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/12/2002 07:56:00 AM | Okra, Okraby BukiosComment: Great balance of space vs. negative space. I like the stark GREEN. The lighting is super, and the background color is right on in that it quietly supports the rest of the image. Strong 9. |
| 09/12/2002 07:55:00 AM | Forbidden Fruit by jmsetzlerComment: You are sure to get comments (and compliments!) on this one. Your model is beautiful ... nice tonal range on her skin, terrific curves, very nicely balanced lights and darks, good use of negative space. The apple is witty, for all its Eve connotations (lust, forbidden knowledge) and for its color. I could honestly gawk at this photo all day long. This is teetering between a 9 and 10 for me ... if it misses the 10, it's because 10 means perfect -- and to be super picky, there are a few teensy blemishes on the closer thigh, easily spot edited after the challenge. |
| 09/12/2002 07:39:00 AM | Kiwi by NitenComment: Gorgeous! An explosion of Kiwi ... the color, though usually not appealing to me, is exciting here because it's all natural. Nice tonal range (almost a duotone of green and yellow), and the seeds are dynamite. This says to me "organic," from the association between sperm-competing-for-ovum and fruit-as-tree's-ovum, but also "cosmic," because of the blast of light. It all ties together. Very nice! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/13/2002 04:43:00 AM | Wild Berriesby jimmspComment: The vibrant colors are startling and wonderful. You managed to catch a bit of texture, too, in the berries. Great shot! |
| 09/12/2002 07:40:00 AM | Twisted Granny Appleby alanfreedComment: One of my favorites this week. I like the muted green below, and the whimsical spiral up top, along with its tonal range of greens, oranges, and yellows. Beautifully lit, very playful photo. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/13/2002 04:37:00 AM | Appleby hobbybobComment: Reminds me a bit of James and the Giant Peach. :) Beautiful, almost pastel coloring on the apple itself. To me, the one blade of grass distracts from the apple's focus, but it's not fatal. Very nice shot! |
