It would have improved the image if you had first removed all of the dead leaves, then framed the pic so that the pine cone is off center. Not very interesting as is.

A nice flower arrangement. The green cardboard detracts from the image. Try using a cloth to drape the table, and flower pot for that matter, and see if you think the image is improved.

Imagine the background with tree branches, leaves etc. The bird would not stand out as it does now. I used maximum DOF to totally blur the background, leaving only the background colors which contrast with the dominant red color in the bird. I feel that I used the negative space to the maximum extent and that it created the "wow" of the overall image.
