just going through the results, as i didn't vote, but i think it may have done better on a completely white background. now i'm no expert, and probably just saying it because it's what i'm currently into, but you wanted thoughts :) good shot, and good to know how you contorted to get it.

hello, I was doing a search for a fisher, because, like you said, it's very rare to capture such a thing. unfortunately, this is not a fisher, it's a mink. i know, as i am a trapper, and have caught both fisher and mink, and i can definately say that that's what it is and isnt'.
on the other hand, i do like the shot :) it's very cool to catch a mink on camera as well.

compositionally, i think the eye needs to be looking into the card, rather than out of the "frame". it draws a viewer's eye into the same direction. this is just my personal opinion, although i believe the name and such need to be a bit bigger, and the purple a bit darker. the globe in the iris throws me off too. it could be a part of your scan that causes the quality to deteriorate, but i'm not sure i like it, even compensating for that. hope this helps!
