Thanks for the nice comments.. yes, quite a lesson learned on being disqualified for a minor technicality. But hey, rules are rules and sometimes the hard way is the best way of learning.
Just for the sake of completeness, here's the shot exactly as it came from the camera, before any editing was applied. You can see the tiny lens glare (green) right in the middle of the image, so I used the stamp tool (unfortunately not allowed) to get rid of that. All other editing has been on brightness and color levels adjustment, plus some chromatic noise reduction...

You really have to be careful about editing on DPC. If you have any doubts at all it is best to contact the SC and ask them whether you are going to far or not. Saves a lot of heartache after the fact.

I was going to enter the recent "personality" challenge which was advanced editing but needed to get rid of a light that was in the way. I asked SC whether it would be considered a "major element" or not and they said it would. As a result I did not enter the challenge. Better to be safe then sorry.

Congrats on a great image. Don't let this discourage you from DPC, just be more careful and ask questions. :)
I look forward to seeing more of your work.

hey thanks!.. no big deal about the DQ.. learning by doing! The picture was all there already when taken: the lens flare was extending for just a few pixels, so it's just down to the 'fine print' in the rules I guess. I might as well have left it there and probably nobody would have even noticed it (time to get me a lens hood??). But really not a problem. I think I've done pretty darn good with my first try :)
Appreciate your comment and kind words of encouragement

you're right: it was noisy (due to water mist). I had to apply a bit of DDP chromatic noise correction to get rid of that...

Soooo many thanks for the '10'. It's so rewarding and encouraging!

nice light and very nice setting. the snowy road with no traces is the image of silence. I would have probably framed it differently to give the scene a more interesting cut. A bit (half stop) underexposed as well, IMO. Still a nice shot anyhow.

I think the composition is a bit crowded and cannot quite see the point. the blue flowers in the foreground are a good idea, but a larger field (wider angle) would have made things more interesting, IMO. Nice light
