A nice green picture, and so it first the topic of the challenge, but the composition is squarely 'snapshot.' A different crop, probably centering (interest-wise, not necessarily geometrically) on the right-hand horse, might have gotten a 9 or 10 from me.

Love the peacefulness this image exudes. The horses are fine and placed so well in the composition, the greens and yellows nicely muted. The sky could be a tad more saturated. Suspect you spend a lot of time sitting on that hill contemplating this setting and i would understand why. 9

It rather seems to me that the horses are the subject of this photo, and they aren't a secondary colour.

I'm rating this shot, coz I fear I may not do very well here. Yes, the sky is a lil washed out. Yes, the shot was taken at or near mid day and is overly 'sunny'. Yes, the choice of subject does not reflect any preferences for 'slick artificiality', nor is it in any way spectacular.

Yet, it portrays a disappearing idyll in an appropiately 'common' way, without any 'affect'. I commend the photographer for awarding us this rare pleasure.

Hello, greetings from the Critique Club,

This is your first entry to DPChallenge, and you started out quite well. I am new to the Critique Club, so we're on equal footing :)

First impressions: Nice picture. When I look at the water, I almost can feel a little seasickness; in this case that's good! The border is very prominent.

Focus: Very good. Everything that needs to be in focus, is. DOF is great.

Lighting / Colour: Also good. The colours are "real". The whites are beautiful, as is the sky.

Composition: I like the white veranda/black tubes on the right hand side - they add to the picture, give it depth. IMHO, the photo might be more dynamic if water and sky weren't divided half and half; maybe a division in thirds would be better (1/3 sky, 2/3 water, or the other way around). I also wish the picture were slighly larger.

Border: The border is nicely done, but possibly it is a bit too heavy for the picture. It almost overpowers it, and makes it darker than needed. Also, to the bottom right hand, the border and the picture merge, making a black triangle - IMO it would be better if that weren't there.

Meeting the challenge: No problems.

Final opinion: I like the picture, it's a great first entry. I think we'll have to look out for you in the future :) Take care,

Ursula Abresch

I really like the boat, the foreground stuff on the right I think takes away too much from the boat.
