My mom's a photographer, as was her father; they're both far better than I am! I only started working on developing my eye semi-seriously a couple of years ago. A lot of what I do is instinctual. I'm interested in learning *what* I'm doing, and therefore how to get good results on purpose instead of by seat-of-the-pants accident.
I do digital photography because, well,l I can't hack the chemistry, and I know if I had to get it all developed in my own basement I'd never end up getting around to it, either. I used to do film photography and get it developed professionally, but that's kind of expensive. The only thing I miss from film photography is the ability to shoot at 800 speed (my camera doesn't quite get that sensitive). Someday. :->
I actively solicit any specific comments on any of my images here that you are moved to offer. Don't worry about my feelings: my ego is *not* wrapped up in these shots. :-> "Wow, cool shot!", while gratifying, isn't really a useful comment for increasing my skill; neither is "Man, that sucks," with no further explanation. Because of this, I tend to give comments as well that are as specific as I can manage, and sometimes they come off as blunt or bitchy. If you clicked to my profile because you think I just slammed you in comments, please, accept my apologies! I meant only to be constructive criticism, not denigration, and any misconceptions are probably due to my own unclear or hurried writing.
Some things that seem to obsess the part of my brain that prompts me to take photographs: mirror self portraits, sunsets, clouds, tree silhouettes/plant shapes, doorways, openings, passages, particular people's faces, reflections, shadows, symmetry, perspective, posture & body language, light. |
