City of Glassby bvyComment: This is a great shot. I'm curious how it would look in B&W. Not a suggestion, just REALLY curious. |

Luck or skill? - Colorby Yo_SpiffComment: I think the B&W was a good choice. It was well shot, regardless, but it's got many more distractions in color. |

Gimmel... I win!by kivgaenComment: I just entered my first challenge, as well. Not this one, but the Life III challenge. It's a good and bad feeling, isn't it? Glad to get the first one out of the way! I also shoot Olympus. Good to see more people doing the same.
As for the photo, I really liked the idea. Lighting would have really helped this capture a lot. You would be surprised at how far $20 can go at Home depot, which is where my current lighting setup came from. a 300w clamp-on worklight w./ 10" reflector, and a 150w, as well. You can improvise a diffusion device if it's too harsh by lighting through fabric. or bouncing the light off a reflective surface before the subject.
Hope this helps your future entries!
best

Blue Skies Smiling At Youby bvyComment: This should've scored WAAAAY higher, IMO. It's a really nice shot, and personally, captures the theme better than 10 or 15 images above it. My 2 cents. I feel you were robbed. |

One last shotby jaimeDpComment: The image could be straightened a bit, the boat cloned out. The vignetting detracts from the subject, and it's not well balanced. the eye is drawn away from the surfer and into the top left corner. |
