I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. It has something of the feel of a snapshot (not sure why). | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Love the combination of blurs and crisp/sharp focus. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. It seems a little burnt out/overexposed on her face. This was something I'd thought to do, but I couldn't find anyone willing to scream for me on camera, so I had to go with something else! Good DOF. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Just the trumpet wouldn't be nearly as strong.. I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. I like the tight crop. The composition's a little muddy, but it's still good. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/30/2003 10:48:38 AM | Control - Today's Matrixby ScottKComment: For what it's worth, I gave it a 7, which for me means:
(a) it fits the contest
(b) it fits it pretty well
(c) no blatant stupid technical flaws
(d) no particular specific lighting/cropping/composition nitpicks that I can find
(e) not completely boring and devoid of artistic interest
(f) doesn't leap out at me and make me say, 'Cool!'
So there you are, an after-the-fact comment explaining my vote. :-> Though I think you can see why I didn't say so before. I didn't have anything specific to say about it. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Fits the theme well enough, and there are no blatant 'you suck!' flaws to it, but neither does it really grab me for any reason at all. For reasons of composition, cropping, or subject choice, it's just a photo, and doesn't do especially much for me, aesthetically.
None of the people are composed to be central, and yet it's not wide enough for the sweep of the ballpark to be the star, either. A better focus on any of the people might have helped. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The deeply-saturated color everywhere but in the flashlight beam makes the rest of the image recede, blending into itself muddily, and what's framed in the white light isn't compositionally coherent. Maybe a little more post-camera tweaking to adjust the color/contrast might have made it pop more. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
