I come back to this picture again and again. For all the things david mentioned, and all the comments below..there is so much love and life in this shot..the emotion is truly moving. I truly think it is one of the most emotive shots on the site, and I'm so delighted you shared it with us. :) |

| Hi Ursula, I'm just studying this photo again, and I marvel at the skilled use of lighting here. I'm just noting where the darkest shadows are and where the light rests. The composition and cropping are outstanding, too. This is just superb! I hope you don't mind if I copy this technique in the near future! |

| Congrats on a beautiful shot. The emotion is quite strong. My only negative comment, which no one mentioned, is that you have oversharpened this. I tried adding smart blur and despeckle and it helps. You should also tone down the contrast a touch and boost the brightness a little, too take the focus away from her hand. I know you won a ribbon and might ask why I am giving negative comments, but I think these slight changes would make it "perfect". |

Ursula, I keep coming back to this shot. I just can't resist it! It has got to be my current favorite photo on DPC right now! It is so intimate and so full of joy--I just love it!

CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

What can I say??? I can not offer anything that would make this shot better, or identify anything that you did wrong, so I guess I will just identify some of the elements that I like, and why I think they work.
The little girl's expression is so genuine; it is almost impossible not to smile while looking at her. It does not look staged at all, or posed, so good work on the naturalness of the shot. Also, your crop is particularly effective, I think, because it focuses the attention on the little girl's eyes. By eliminating the "outside" of their heads, it gives a more intimate feeling.
The coloring you have chosen really adds to the emotion of the shot and helps to control skin tones, which can look red or blotchy in color if the lighting is not exaclty right. Great focus.
Very well done, and a definitely a deserving winner. Good work and best to you in future challenges.

I'm pressed for time and don't have time to make comments this week, but I had to leave one for this image. This is one of the best examples I've seen in a long time of capturing emotion and interaction with a photograph. The black and white works great... I cant find anything to improve, other than the back of her hand being a little blown out, but that's Ok. I give it a 10 and I hope to see this image win the challenge!!

| Oh, I like this idea! It makes me want to know what was said to provoke the reaction, and the connection to the challenge topic is quite clear. The man's hair is a little distracting at that angle but the girl is quite well framed. |

| Possibly the most unique and perhaps my favorite image from the challenge. That hand over the mouth, surpressing a giggle, and the squinted eyes, really make this image 'speak'. It truly feels as if you've caught an intimate moment, and the hushed voices and laughter just flows from this shot. Brilliant work. 10 |

| 10 for concept, 8 for execution: 9 overall. :-> A little more drama in the contrast/lighting might well have pumped it a bit higher, but still, very good. I hear the photo (which is my major grading criteria for this contest), and it's an appealing image overall. I like the tight crop. The composition's a little muddy, but it's still good. |
