All Fenced Inby pmichaudComment: Lovely expression on the dogs face - a definite sense of being fenced in.
I would have taken the shot from lower, down at the dogs's level. Then in post-processing maybe played with the saturation levels of the reds and yellows, to bring out the colour of the dog more. |

Morning Rays by aberrationComment: Very effective. I would have tried playing with the black-point to make the tree-line a little darker and maybe more distinct from the sky (particularly over on the right). |

Fenced Inby irish_eyesComment: There's a lot to this, that all comes together to make it "work".
Monochrome is always good for creating a sombre tone. The subject is mostly in the dark, except for her hand, which is creating a strong sense of "the light" being on the viewers side of the fence - she is imprisoned, not us.
The building in the background has a vaguely institutional look, too. wherever she's imprisoned, it's not a holiday camp.
Then there's the lip-ring, the lanky hair, and the expression of the subject. Wherever she is, it's ground her down. She's defeated, just biding her time.
The lighting on the hand is overdone, obviously. And the gadget that she's holding is distracting, as (to a less extent) is whatever it is intruding into the shot at top right. But overall it works well. |

Brokenby hanaeComment: I love the way the fenceline leads the eye into the shot. The whole thing is very well composed, creating something very evocative of a rural english winter. The dark grey overcast sky helps with that! :-) |

Blue Hazeby HaneckComment: The sky gradient is pleasing to the eye. But nothing else really grabs me about this. Sorry. |

• First Night, 2007 • by Bear_MusicComment: Wow!
I was beginning to get a bit jaded by all the pedestrian "here's a picture of a firework" shots, and as this one started to unroll on my screen I thought I was going to get yet another one. But no!
Love the framing, and the pervasiveness of the red hue. And the way the column of smoke discreetly merges into the general cloud cover. And the lighting of the house. And the sky pattersn. And the reflections. And the law of thirds applied in both dimensions. And, and, and... |
