Lost in wildernessby aporagenComment by heida: nice :) the blue color in the top right is so bright though that its stealing attention from the subject, maybe a little desaturation could have helped there :) |

Living in a Circleby aporagenComment by Timosaby: I enjoyed exploring the area around him...well.. not "enjoyed" that's probably the wrong word, i meant to say that looking around him puts his situation in context, it tells a story of who this guy is and what kind of life he is living. This is very raw and i absolutely love it.
Its a sad world. Faved. |

Living in a Circleby aporagenComment by Chinarosepetal: Critique Club
First impressions
Something a bit different for a DPC entry, good title for the challenge.
After a bit
This is a lovely environmental portrait, I disagree that you should have got closer, we need to see the man and his world for us to engage properly with him. It is a shame that a few of his toes missed being caught in the shot, and the (unavoidably) harsh light means we've lost some of his face to shadow, but this isn't a studio portrait - what you saw is what we got and I like it.
Overall
A bold shot for this challenge, I like the composition and I'm glad to see it scored reasonably well.
Well done :) |

The Three Musketeersby aporagenComment by bspurgeon: Hello from the Crtique Club
First Impression: An interesting group of young people waisting away a summer day walking the tracks. I like the open ended story. It let's my mind wander.
Composition: As is, good. I think it may have been made stronger by extending the top right of the frame to get a vanishing point from the tracks. I believe that would add more to the story that you have begun. I see that you are shooting with the 5DmkII, so I presume that this was with the 24-105L. 24-30mm would have captured more track. However, it is quite possible that there are buildings, etc, beyond the trees, and a wider perspective would have ruined the scene.
DOF/Exposure: It appears you were shooting in low light or shade given the ISO. With that shutter speed I believe you could have extended the depth of field to bring in more of the 3 child. However, this may not have been your intent, but he seems stuck somewhere in between the foreground and background. Overall the image seems to have strong contrast on the kids. Maybe a bit brighter.
Overall, I like this photograph, there is a great story here, and I love the open ended quality.
Good luck with your next entry!
Cheers,
Ben

Majestic Niagara Fallsby aporagenComment by Sheryll: Now this is where the neg space creates the wow factor but the technicals aren't great on it. Some suggestions that may or may not work... increase contrast and midtones; increase color in the water (probably green or cyan?). Of course these may not work because you may end up blowing out Niagera in places but you may be able to compensate that by decreasing highlights. The whole thing just looks too hazy for me which is what I would try to overcome in pp if it were my shot. |

Majestic Niagara Fallsby aporagenComment by bergiekat: This is quite interesting. I love the composition and the textures. Wonder if you could have pulled a bit more contrast. The mist is making it look a bit flat when we know it isn't. Nice job. |

Majestic Niagara Fallsby aporagenComment by Beetle: Good subject and appropriate use of negative space. A bit of post processing would make this look a lot better (I just tried a simple auto curves and found it made a big difference to the colour and clarity of this photo). |
