 Not my best of 2011, but my favorite shot and a great time doing it.
And yes, a single capture.
This was a challenge from a friend, the theme was Levitation, I went all out with great help from my family and it was well worth it. The execution was simple, it is because of all the modern technology many people have forgotten the old tricks. I made a full body harness from wide straps for the boy, picked out PJs and hung him up. He was so comfortable that I could order some facial expressions and joke around with him. I had the flass up high on a tripot to get the shadow like I wanted it and also to get the shadow from the railing on to the teddy and the blanket. After that it was normal editing, the straps cloned out and then I used deffuse glow and gaussian blur to get this dreaming affect. Although I´m rather happy with it, you should see the kid, he was so happy with the outcome.

@spiritualspatula I got this word Levitation to work with, did some search for ideas and improvised.
@LalliSig The eyes, yes i got one with his eyes closed but i was happier with this one, but thats a good tip for next time.

Took me a second to notice he wasn't on the stairs... Really nicely done, but I wonder if it got missed by speed voters. Gonna Fav it to see if it is explained after. Very interesting. 8 =)

The kid's expression and head orientation sell this shot. There is no indication he is jumping or looking where he might land, just serenely, effortlessly, floating down the stairway. I think the harsh shadows on the wall add to the surreal feel.

Creepy! Although, I've had a dream like that too.

Very technical... might be better with the eyes closed? Something creepy about the eyes being closed...

With the growl of his tummy, Joey awoke in the middle of the night. He had refused to eat the beef stroganoff and was sent to bed without supper. "Cookies," he smiled, grabbed his blanket, Teddy, and quietly crept out of bed and down the stairs. But something was odd as he wiggled his toes. Joey looked down and realized he was floating! His feet were not touching the stairs!
Joey awoke with a start. He sat up in bed. "Woah, it was just a dream," as he shook the cobwebs out of his head. His tummy grumbled. "Cookies," he smiled, grabbed his blanket, Teddy and quietly floated out of bed and down the stairs.

This is the type of photo that makes you do a double take. The scene is fairly common...until you notice something quite odd and take a closer look:-) He is not creeping quietly down the stairs, he's floating!!!! It is then, when the audience realizes that 'everyday' becomes something extraordinary in a dream.

Pretty cool, nicely done and executed. Did you do a version where he had his eyes closed? I think that would have appealed more to me, since he´s supposed to be dreaming, just a suggestion for maybe next time you do something like this, to see wich version you would like better.
