Challenge: Best of 2011 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300s
Location: Canyonlands National Park, Utah
Date: Sep 30, 2011
Aperture: 9.0
ISO: 500
Shutter: 1/320
Date Uploaded: Jan 28, 2012

I was amazed at the change in the reflected glow under the arch from shot to shot. The red kept getting more brilliant. After taking many exposures with different settings, this photo is my favorite. I believe lighting is the most important element in photography.

I am grateful for your comments. This is my third challenge and I was very happy to see my score improve. Your comments help me look at my photo from "another pair of eyes" and I appreciate your suggestions.

Beautiful composition. I like the fact that you didn't try to remove the haze in the distance.

Such a famous spot. Very good image but lacking oomph!

Please read up on LAB as alternative to process specifically this image. It does not portray even 30% of its potential. The Canyon Conundrum by [Dan Marquiris?] is excellent reading material on this LAB color field. Contact me later after the challenge, I will give you more detail, okay?

I've always loved the framing by the arch, and the orange / red highlights.

Good job with the natural framing. There is a lot of different layers in this images not only in the stone, but also the depth.

A classic shot that's always beautiful. I wish it were a bit crisper... I also think an HDR could have helped some here due to the clear skies you had that day.

I like the framing effect here. I wish there was more saturation in the overall scene, but love the glow on the front top rock formation.

well I think that King of the Mountains, RianBotes has some stiff opposition in this one. Fantastic lighting, great shot. Real good stuff.

This composition can´t go wrong, it´s classic, but at the same time I have seen "this" photograph before, and in better lighting, closer to twilight so the "wow" factor is lost on me. Can´t say though that if I was there, I´d take the exact same shot, don´t get me wrong.
