This photo is just not that good. Foot is dead center in the composition. The theme of the photo is tickle me, ok so if
you don't have a foot fetish the photo is pointless. Looks like a average backyard vacation snap, nothing more. |

Has that old time Brownie snap-shot look to it, even down to the color cast. |

Maybe participating in a photographic site isn't your thing. You need to understand that personal moments that you enjoy immensely do not translate to great photos. |

Sorry but u r wrong for me. First the subject is nit the lady but the foot. How can the shadow distract you when u say that the foot is too big. The top right? Probably u have never been on a beach and that is giving u the sense of the deep. Again, women face is nit the subject, the subject is the foot and the title is very clear. Idea is brilliant composition is nice light was very strong, if u r off its because of your envy |
Wow.....WOW. Well since you are so confident there should be no need to seek justification from others.
For me it looks like a silly snapshot someone takes on vacation. Your reponse to dbosse shows an arrogance that is unmatched by anyone I have encountered on this site, perhaps with the exception of Larus...... |
the arrogance is the fuel that gives me motivation to go head and improve day by day. What he wrote did not sound so friendly and definitely i answered with arguments. If you call it arrogance.... |

To me this is a fun holiday shot. It looks like it captured a spontaneous moment worth keeping hold of. It does not look like a rigorously thought out, carefully executed and edited work. I do not see a "brilliant idea", and I am glad that the ten people who finished below you did not also rail against the score that their entry received.
If you like the image and a few others did as well, that ought to be enough. If you want to hear what others think of it, then enter it into competition. However don't be offended by all their impressions of your work; and railing against a commenter who didn't like your work, but had the guts to tell you why is not going to help.
IMHO you didn't really deserve the ones, nor did you deserve the tens. No one likes ones, and seven of them hurt. I got seven ones on a shot that I thought was spot on the challenge (finished fifth anyway) and no one who hated it had the guts to say what they hated about it. I would have liked to know why. Reject or accept negative reactions as you will, but if you want to score better you need to hear them out. |

At its heart, this challenge was a Free Study that required your title link the image with a sense. I say this because we sense the world, and all of our photos are necessarily of the world. Anything can be sensed that we are depicting. What this means, though, is that it becomes a Free Study- where grandiose and visually stunning (eye candy) photos dominate. As such, your photo is neither. Despite how harsh that sounds, hear me out. Your scene is not something we've never seen before, nor is it superbly eye catching, which is a requisite for a high score in a Free Study. It is a well taken photo, no doubt, and I surely enjoy it as an entry.
While I understand that you intended for the foot to be the focal point, the sharpness of her face in the background demands our attention, and the viewer is left going between the two. A wider aperture would have helped this (shooting at 1.4 or 1.8), though this was not an option given your lens choice. I like the fun feel of this shot, and its interesting perspective. Because of this, I most likely would have given it a 5 or possibly a 6 if it struck the mood I was in when I voted.
My advice is to view your entries in the full context of the challenge. It is very rare that an audience as varied as DPC will unanimously interpret your image how you'd like them to. There will always be those who see things differently, and this is not bad, it is great. Criticizing the variety of interpretations is silly- you, nor I, nor any one person, are not the arbiter of art, or photography, or all things under the sun. Some images will resonate with some users, some won't. A failure on your behalf to predict the reaction of the masses does not mean your photo is without merit, and some would say this in fact means it deserves more attention for that reason alone, but don't take this to mean that it is necessarily the audience that is to blame. The onus is on the artist to provide a framework for the viewer. |

Beautiful foreshortening piece, which makes it very interesting! I can virtually feel the gritty sand and the cool refreshing water. Even the foot is slightly curled to give the bottom a rumply texture! |
