Challenge: Miniature (Basic Editing I)
Collection: Challenge Photos
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Near Ft. Carson, Colorado
Date: Aug 3, 2004
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Galleries: Landscape, Still Life
Date Uploaded: Aug 3, 2004

The old gentleman set up a display along Highway 115 in Southern Colorado. We stopped this evening to check it out, and I thought it might be appropriate for the miniatures challenge. (I also brought home two miniature trees). Lighting was difficult. It was about 6 p.m. and I was shooting nearly into the sun. Use the kit lens on the 300d and added a polarizer. The final picture was cropped a bit.

Very imaginative shot. Wonderful landscape. A little bit of the sky would have added a lot of depth to this picture. The sky looks really nice in the background and by showing a little bit of the mountain to the left it would have been great.

Just small trees....

I really like this photo. The effect is quite dramatic. I have a couple of suggestions. The red and white tags area bit distracting it would have been nice if they had been removed before the shot. The other is that the the bonsai trees are a bit dark. I see that the sun was coming from behind the trees. In a program like Photoshop you may be able to adjust the levels to bring them up in brightness a bit. Also a slightly lower angle would be interesting so that the top tree had its leaves sitting against the sky (possibly). I don't mean to be critical I just think that the idea behind the shot is so interesting that with the right treatment this could be a truly exceptional shot. The kind that wins awards etc. Good luck with your photography. You obviously have an eye for a good shot.

Very clear photo but what about the last part of the challenge? ("conveys to the viewer that the subject of your photo is a tinier version of something that is normally larger.") Otherwise I do like it.

Very nice! I think this fits tyhe challenge perfectly! They really do look like larger trees in the background. Too bad about those orange price tags, but great shot anyway!!

nice landscape! very original idea as well... i like how the idividual subjects are placed including the hill at the back and the sky. some of the bonzai trees in front are a bit underexposed but increasing the exposure would probably have ruined the sky. perhaps a better compromise could have been reached :) 8

Great collection and colors. There's too much shadow in the photo though.
