 Outside my side porch, I have a Maple tree that is quite old. The center is hollow in most parts of the tree. In the 15 years I have owned my house, it has been home to numerous birds, honey bees, squirrels, and wasps. This year it's Flickers and Squirrels. The tree is about 10 feet from the porch where I BBQ almost every night for dinner. The top of the limb where they live is also hollow, so they can come and go through two separate entries. The sound of the shutter clicking enticed these two to come out and see what the sound was.

Finally broke the 7 barrier!! Woo Hoo! I got so lucky with this shot. Was out fixing my dinner on the grill and noticed the critters playing, had my camera all ready set up with the correct lens and was able to get quite a few shots of them. Thanks everyone for all your great comments and votes! Was a very fun week watching the score. I was not counting my chickens though, there were lots of great shots in this challenge! (:

A very cute shot, I sure wish I could send you all the squirrels from my place, can't afford all the bird feed for both them and the birds!!! Congrats on your ribbon.

No flash was used, just that massive ISO of 12800 and the rest was done with careful processing. I also used my 2X extender which takes that 70-200 lens aperture to f/8. Not much light comes through with that. I also used the spot metering setting since it was actually fairly darker inside the tree trunk. I didnt want to take the chance of the evaluative setting with a challenging exposure like that.

Oh My goodness!!! That's just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. I have a squirrel that comes down when I call her. I put out sunflower seeds and she scampers right down within a foot of me. SO CUTE.
