I enjoyed the fist challenge and didn't want to miss this one.

I shot this around midday. I noticed that the dead plant on the wall was highlighted by the sun. There was no shadow and it looked a bit flat.

I used an SB-800 speedlight off camera on a light stand with a temporary paper snoot that I made in a rush to create the shadow.

The plant in the photo died many months ago and I have kept it displayed on the wall since then. I like seeing it there every day. It's a boring wall otherwise.

** I thought of cloning out the bottom right part of the roots (squarish bits), but wasn't sure if that was allowed.

It's not really something I couldn't have avoided. I could have cut that part during shooting.

But I don't want to cut it either.

Yep, I did think of that too. It actually had a lot of roots before shaped nicely like a pot.

Az. Going for the FA juried double? You've got a good shot at it; it's a lovely, understated photograph ... classical composition, and the raking light makes the shadow sing a perfect sustained note. Beautiful and durable. And in my own top three choices. 9. Thank you.

Such a unique image. It could be a plant on wall, or an aerial view of a tree in a barren landscape. Just love the lengthy shadow cast!

Beautiful low key. The constraints of the screen limit its possibilities. This would be awesome on a large canvas or huge print. 8
