Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Edward Weston (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
Location: Eastern Townships, Quebec
Date: Mar 26, 2011
Aperture: f 5.6
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1/800
Date Uploaded: Mar 29, 2011

I wanted a sense of curves - which are in many of Weston's photos. And here I like the contrast between the texture of the dark rocks and the smoothness of the white snow. It was hard to bring out the contrast properly - especially to show the subtle shading of the snow.

I think this is good and something Weston may have photographed. A couple drawbacks to this shot is that the light is even and possibly diffused by cloud cover making the scene fairly grey and even in tone. I think you could have just gotten closer to the main subject to make it better. If Weston were to photograph this, he would have concentrated on the one rock in the foreground. I know this because I am an expert and have studied the master thoroughly! (he says with tongue in cheek!!)

I think Weston would have really liked this shot. Very nice with echoes of Weston.
