On the way home from work, last summer. Pretty awesome scene. Luckily had my tripod and DSLR and all with me, set things up and enjoyed the wonder, taking the occasional pic.
The thing was... even with things looking like this.. I got all sorts of weird looks from the people on the road. Maybe it was the tie?

I was wondering how many comments about it being too dark I would get. I wanted this to be brooding, dark, and to hinge upon contrast. If anything, the thought that I had in my mind would be to replicate the sort of atmosphere from the book The Road by Cormac Mccarthy. One of the power for change and hope when things are most dismal, since that's all there is that's left in the face of such overpowering darkness. The full size is very detailed, and the small version really just feels boring to me, but I figured it was the most fitting for the entry, and still one I was happy with.

Thanks for all the comments.

Lots of depth and drama here. Love those rays of light.

Hey, this one is misplaced, should have been before mine! :-)
Actually it should have placed much higher. I wish I had such grand views on my way home from work... I love the darkness (and you don't have many complaints about it :), definitely illustrates The Road. But I agree, such a grand scene demands full-size view.

Beautiful the way the distant sunbeams pull sky and earth together.

cool feeling in this shot, as if we are being pulled into the light

I love what you've done with the sky! Very dramatic shot.

Very dark on this monitor, but it does serve to set off the sunbeams beautifully.

I just love crepuscular rays. I love the ground and the light here, but feel that the clouds are overly processed and fight to steal the show.

After...the Mother ship has just left...
Just joking - a very heavy PP effect but I actually really like it! It emphasizes the beams of light coming through the clouds. The leading lines in the field draw your eye to the beams. Composition is really good too. Might not be eye-candy enough to really do well but I sure like it.

to me this seems very soft on the focus
