Challenge: Free Study 2010-12 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) for Nikon
Location: Will Rogers Memorial in Colorado Springs, CO
Date: Dec 13, 2010
Galleries: Abstract, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Dec 29, 2010

PP was pretty easy, used Nik Silver Efex two times to get the eerie glow around the windows, added a blue filter, then used Nik define to take some of the roughness out of the image, then saved for web.

I know the voters will probably not like this one but I am hoping it might fit in with the Posthumous crowd, if not I may be alone on this one.

Post challenge: pretty cool this one did better in voting than expected and to get into the posthumous gallery is just awesome!

O, this is stunning. Sometimes a title is descriptive, sometimes it makes no difference, but sometimes it deepens the image. And this does the job perfectly. The threat is both implied and imminent, and yet we willingly go into the maw.

I loved this image -- gave it an 8. Congrats on the gallery nod. :D

for welcoming me to the dungeon...
for threatening me...
for not cleaning the walls...

I'm putting you in my Posthumous Art Gallery.

Yikes! Many shadows looming ahead. I don't think I want to go down those stairs =:-0

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: I really like the geometry of this - I don't know how else to say it; the relationship of the lines and planes to one another holds a lot of interest. We pass by such arrangements of lines and planes everyday without noticing this interplay and I like photographs that remind us to stop and look around once in a while.

There is more to this image though - the way you offer up the light and shadow; the deep shadows, the blown highlights and the restraint of the greys - all very effective.

My favourite part of the image is the streaking glow on the right hand window - its brightness contrasting with the general gloominess of the stairwell leaves us wondering what time of day it actually is.

Critical stuff: Noting at all really.

Overall: Nicely seen, nicely shot.

Image is a bit dark in the bottom part for my taste. I would have cropped the total black section out. I do like the railing and slight hint of detail in the black parts where is does appear. Soft focus on light window works

Unfortunately, I'm not liking this photo much. I think it has a lot of potential, if there were a bit more shadow detail and/or the light in the windows wasn't blown out.

Very sci-fi terror. The processing really adds a queasy feeling. Nicely done.
