This was shot late in the afternoon, the sunlight had already disappeared, and the remaining light was being blocked out by a veil of snow in the air. I did not bring a tripod so I was forced to shoot handheld, thus the high ISO.
Despite the amount of snow in the air, it was very hard to capture it in the picture, so I had a friend throw some extra snow in from the left.
The phone booths in Norway are really bright red, and while they used to be all over the place there are only about 100 left now. These are now under the protection of the government, and kept as landmarks.
PP in lightroom:
- WB, Exposure, black clipping, lightness, contrast.
- Desaturated most colors, leaving only red and some blue
- Adjusted the luminance sliders to increase some of the colors' contribution to the B&W
- Removed default sharpening, bumped up the luminance and color NR
- Export to tiff
PP in photoshop:
- Copy contents of tiff into new picture
- Add frame (Edit->Stroke)
- Save for web.
I'm anticipating critique for the noise and lack of sharpness, and probably also for the somewhat cliché desaturation.

I got a question on how I accomplished the effect under Basic editing, so I'll elaborate on that here as well:
Regarding how I did the effect under the "basic" rules: Using the sliders under "HSL" in Lightroom, I simply desaturated the colors I didn't want in the picture - orange, green, magenta etc - and left red and yellow saturated plus a little bit blue for the shadows. All of this was done globally on the picture (not within a selection), so I am fairly sure it's all allowed under the rule:
"saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry, but no selections are allowed."
