Greetings from the Critique Club!

The message
A creative portrait with a contemporary style. It gives me the impression of someone who is serious but hip and maybe a bit mysterious.

Creative choices
There is a bit too much contrast here for a really effective portrait, and the bright spot in the background grabs attention, distracting from the subject. But the point of view and tilted look are great. The composition is a bit unbalanced, but it seems to work anyway.

Technical aspects
The wide dynamic range makes this technically difficult to capture, but it was adequately done (better lighting would have made exposure a lot easier!).

I dont like the bright area behind his back, but I love the puple and the great angles. I give you an 8.

Lighting: Needs a reflector on his left and a catchlight in his eyes so they are not lost in the shadows.
Pose: The pose is fine, but look into alternate expressions and posture. The tilt does nothing for me and cropping off his knee is not good.
Background: The shade works well, but including the supports of the tent greatly detract from the portrait, particularly where the bar cuts through his head.

Good idea for composition. Perhaps some soft lighting on the shadowy side of his face to match the reflection fron the front of the shirt.

Would love to see what the background really looks like here! Probably the best job of lighting the background for effect that I've seen in this challenge. The subject however is a tad bit too dark. A little fill light to bring out the detail in his pants and a little catch light would make this the bomb!

Wonderful capture, love the background ! The stern look on the face certainly portrays the seriousness of a photographer after his capture :), I would like to have seen the whole face more accentuated, a slight shadow on the right side, (the subject's left side) great tones. I like it !

Odd angle and perspective for a portrait; for some reason I really like the geometry/lines/color of the background.

Interesting set up - I like the differing shades of purple and the lines and different angles - it suits the angle of his kneesin the chair, and the tilt of the camera. I like the angles lighting. I wish the expression on his face was less pained or bored. The face is the central piece here it should carry more weight, show more of the subject's character.

I like the compo. Looks like a flamboyant photographjer. Excellent lighting. 10

Just a touch of the stool showing that doesn't add any value. The background is a bit busy, but it works.

Cool portrait, it gives me a neon/futuristic feeling - I like the varying shades of purple and lines in the background. The model looks like he is floating (since the seat is almost hidden) which reinforces the futurstic feel. My only two nitpicks are that the model should be closer to the camera, and a solid shirt instead of striped probably would've been better. Good, serious expression by the model, and very nice lighting!

I love this one...the background is fabulous and interesting without being a distraction, and the pose is great as well. I do wish the left knee weren't cut off, but aside from that, it's great. Model is very striking...kinda wish he was smiling a bit more, but that serious look is fitting as well. :o)

The colorful purple background doesn't match the angry look on his face, but I like the angle.

I love the angle and background. A little more light on his face to kill the shadow might be nice.

this is very nice, I like the background color and the lines, it might be a little better if the subject were positioned in the center of the spot of light behind him, and maybe another light source to put some, but not too much, light on the shaded side of his face

Unusual angle and background color works - but the "model airplane shape" on the wall that merges with his head is not good.

I like the background, and the lines at the top, the side lighting. Great expression too, seems in conflict with the happy BG color. Nice work

Could have entered this in PURPLE! Neat shot, lovely use of ight, and a bit too dark on the left hand side (of the model) for my taste. Composition is excellent.

like the style - well, I don't, personally, but I like your execution of it - has a certain meanness to it. White shirt issue though - makes the face look dark, pulls the attention away from subject, and the background highlight is not helping that being in the same area of frame. 6

Dramatic alright, but the dour look is a bit much. But you definitely deserve credit for creativity!

Great colour and I really like the angle of your composition. As a minor niggle I'd say in my opinion that the main light source should have been a tad further round to light more of th emodels face. Although I see that you may have had the intention of harsh side lighting to make the shot moodier, it's just the shirt is so bright. Nice job though.

my only crit would be the focus on the spot on the backwall is a little bright and highlights his bottom.
Good luck

Very original pose and background...model looks a bit sombre and pissed off...makes for an interesting brooding atmosphere.

Very professional looking. The only thing that I would have liked better is a little more light on the right side of his face. Good luck!

Couple of things bother me with this shot. The shirt fold on the left, the white of the seat under his buns and the line near the bottom on the left. I do like his expression, the light and the colors. His pose is also okay, just the few flaws that distract for me. Good luck in the challenge.
