Taken at Point Betsie, north of Frankfort Mi, on Lake Michigan. It was very tricky taking this shot as there was ice everywhere - some places could not access, as I would have slid all the way down to the lake... The sun came out for a few brief minutes so I captured this winter wonderland

Beautiful photo. I love it, especially the light. The wave action is very dramatic. Glad you didn't slide into that freezing lake. :)

Greetings from the Critique Club

First off, congratulations on the ribbon. Very happy to see that your brief moment with the DQ was reversed.

Very glad to read in your notes that you did not slip trying to get this image. I know that feel all too well here!

I think the first thing that struck me about this image was the lovely wintery light. For an image that so clearly portrays cold, it gave a warmth to it that was appreciated. I notice a lot of people used blue to enhance the feeling of cold in their images.

It's difficult to offer too much by way of critique, as it is evident both from your score and placement that this was a well received image that clearly met the challenge. I'm not sure I would have done anything differently.

YOu know, I've been looking at your portfolio, and every image you've done well with, has been shot in the bitter cold. I dub the "Icemaster Drake"... Nice job. I expected the same damned lighthouse from you, and was pleased to see something else :-)

You've done what's been on my To-Shoot List for quite some time - gotten gorgeous pictures of our beautiful Lighthouses in Winter. Congratulations on a most special capture, and on the high placement in the Challenge.

Thank you all for the ribbon! As you can tell I like taking lighthouse shots. This one was very interesting, with the wave action and icy buildup around the jetty and lighthouse - and then the sun actually came out for 5 minutes (unusual in Michigan in the winter...). Wish that tree was not there...
Thanks again,
Drake

I love the waves splashing against the frozen. I feel that the tree was cut off and shouldn't have been. could have cut out some of the lower beach to keep the top of the tree.

Wow, a beautiful shot, shame about that tree that you had to cut the top off, but not your fault of course..

Fast shutter was a great choice for this; it makes it look like even the waves were frozen in the act of crashing.
