Greetings from the Critique Club!
Hi Alec,
Looking at your portfolio, you have a wonderful talent for capturing people - this is one such example. Excellent focus on his eyes - and a whole world seems to be reflected in them - and nice use of shallow DOF. My only suggestion would be to crop the post on the right. While keeping it in maintains your aspect ratio (and I tend to like to do that), taking it out removes an unneeded element from the photo.
As it is, this scored pretty well for a "Best of" challenge and was well appreciated by your commenters. |

A wonderful portrait. I love the colour and detail, but most of all the snot mark under the nose... I have a photo of one of my cousins at the snow with a similar effect and it's one of my all time favourite photos I've taken. Well done. |

Beautiful photo. I was a bit bothered at first by the white under his nose, then I realized the photo wouldn't be the same without it! Did you whiten the eyes? They almost seem too white, but I also believe that could be natural. Very human portrait and a top vote getter from me. |

great close capture and the eye is just showing that beautiful expression.. i wish it was cropped from the right though, the wood or whatever the monk is resting against isn't bringing anything to the shot! 7 |

intense in the gaze - i find the mostly covered mouth to add to the story of this person |

Wonderful portrait , processing is perfect , I am not sure if the column on the right helps , I would have probably removed it, 9 |

Intimate indeed. I like the strategic tight crop and shallow DOF. |

a formidable force this picture, those eyes seem to speak... But I would have eliminated that area to the right where we can see, I think, a wooden pole... great shot! 8 |

Nice detail, good processing, but sorry I just can't get past the mucus on his nose. I would have cloned that out. |
