this is my life
week #1

this is my son, up late doing homework.

shot with available light from his desk lamp and a bedside lamp.

i edit all my images with gimp and this one has a texture called "old photo" from Jeremy Brotherton.

ETA: 20 comments and no one mentioned the glare of the metal bit of the pencil! :) yay! i'm glad it wasn't a dstraction. i was pretty worried about that.

I like the light on his face. Not sure if Gimp has layers, but maybe you could process it twice to get more detail in the paper. Either way, very nice use of available light, looking forward to more entries.

I love the way the light is reflected back from the paper onto your son's face. Very nice.

I love the light! It's nice when it's hot in one spot that despite normalcy, drives you away from it. Well done, IMNSHO!

Definitely has an old photo look to it. I wonder how it would look in sepia? Good use of available light.

The first thing I thought when I saw this was how it looks like an old oil painting, that filter sure worked well. The frontlighting works well.

Reminds me of staying up late doing lines at boarding school : )

I like the reflected light on his face and also like the composition. Very difficult shot with the bright light and dark shadows so this is well exposed. Parentl pride shines through!

Wonderful portrait and really like it!

I get more of a feeling of sitting by the window, under sunlight. Nice illusion, I would say. :-).

The intense light gives context to his level of concentration and attention to his work (I hope!!!).

the use of the lamplight is a great idea and if you could have defused it a little more the lighting would have been just brilliant instead of great :)

oh the texture is really cool here. i like how the shadow reveals the lines on the paper. the light and texture kick this every-day-life kind of photo up to a new level. good for him for sitting and doing his work lol

I love the way the light hits his face. The background came out nice, too... no distracting elements.

The washed out area of the paper actually helps to focus the viewer's eye on your son's face and his expression. I really like it!
