Greetings from the Critique Club!
A very pleasing portrait, beautiful girl with a great face and proportions. Her eyes are indeed wonderful and captivating. The studio lighting is lovely with maybe just a little bit of glare on her hair to the right.
However, the composition is quite static - such a lovely girl and apart from the makeup, so little seems to have been done with her! There simply isn't enough to tell a story here, and that was the purpose of this challenge. Yes, her glorious eyes are eloquent, but they can't do all the work.
I also watch ANTM and pay attention to the shoots, so I can understand your inspiration. But Tyra is always insistent that the girls learn how to tell a story with their faces and bodies. The ashes only seemed to confuse most commenters (and they are limited to only the shoulders and face). The giant diamond further confused me. If she's come through the ashes, well, how has she done that? If she were outside, or emerging from a burned-out building, there would be some sense of context and perhaps suffering.
Overall, a nicely executed shot for a portrait challenge, but I'm afraid the concept is just too weak to carry it further than that. Gorgeous model, do use her in the future if you can.
Feel free to PM me with any questions,
Susan |

Great portrait, the lighting is good, as are the skin tones. However, she looks too clean to be dirty (if that makes any sense). The ashes look unnatural. |

Not sure I see the story here. Is she a Glamor Coal Miner? |

A really pretty model but I can't help thinking the ashes actually detract from the shot rather than add anything. Perhaps if there was some contect for the ashes it might make more sense... i.e. a burning building in the background or something like that. |

I assume the ashes have some relevance, but the picture doesn't make it clear. |

technically great. by keeing the DOF so shallow you keep the focus on the eyes. But what role do the ashes play in your portrait? For me they take away from an otherwise great portrait |
