Tripped over this on a local beach early one morning - rare find indeed :). Some cropping, exposure adjustment and sharpening. The angle finder was a big help.

I think this works well as a "hidden challenge" (unlike most of the shots I've looked through). It seems that the focus might be on the front of the shell rather than the pearl, though. I think if you had nailed the focus a bit better, this could have been good. As a side note, I might have experimented with different crops to see if a more horizontal version of this might have worked better. Having said that, you may have already done this and decided on this one. I know that I get comments about cropping, and I've already tried many different crops and they didn't work for one reason or another. :-)

It looks like you ended up with a focus point on the lower front edge of the clam instead of the pearl.

Great idea, but pearl OOF, too much bokeh top 1/2 distracting me.

Nice set up, good idea, like the bokeh very much, but maybe a bit too much at the top. Square crop might have worked better. The pearl looks too artificial in shape and placement (kinda like a marble) and lacks some detail. 6

Neat concept... I think the pearl could have been sharper but a great shot nonetheless.
