 Getting my feet wet with some strobes and the dilapidated core of a baseball I found in my yard. I think in this orientation it looks a little bit like a brain with a bundle of nerves trailing from it.

Pre-challenge notes:
I expect this semi-abstract to be the sort of image that appeals to a limited crowd. I had another, more conventional shot that would probably do mid pack in the sibling challenge, but I'm pleased with this and I really want to see how it does. If it bombs the freestudy gives me another chance at redemption.

Anticipated critiques:
-Too dark
-trailers are slightly OOF, Needs more depth of field.
-What is it?

Post-challenge notes:
I think this entry makes an excellent example of why one should not take the overall average too seriously. This shot got comments that echoed my own perception and the mood I was going for. I knew it would not be to everyone's taste and it received it's share of low votes. (With no explanatory comments, of course.) I totally nailed what I was portraying, however. The in-challenge comments speak louder than the average score on this one.

Hey, this is cool. Looks like a skull or side view of a brain. :-) Nice texture and great use of lighting to bring out the details. Same technique would work well for the Low Key challenge.

*not voting as I'm in this challenge-just commenting since I've seen requests for comments in the challenge thread*

Very intriguing. Almost an alien or sci-fi feel. I love the lighting and the texture at the top of the frame but am dissapointed that it doesn't continue throughout. Overall, Very cool though.
