hdr'ed with photomatrix, opened in photoshop, basicly hammered curves and the nik filters until i got it as i wanted it :) then had a mess with topaz then just to make sure i'd proper over done it ;) made a b&w layer from nik and merged before resizing and denoising then shapen and save for web.

was hard to get the shots, 3 bracketed because was using an old m42 extension tube set where none of the stuff in camera works :( oh and it was windy!

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: Its really hard to differentiate yous technical strengths from the weaknesses with this particular HDR image. The center of the image appears in focus, as does the top portion just above center. It looks like the wind, as well as the tremendous amount of post-processing played a large role in losing a good deal of your web detail. I see a lot of softness and pixelation from the various post-processing steps you used.

Lighting: Even with the HDR rendering, the center of the image feels a bit too bright.

Composition/Content: Centered composition works well is many instances. I think that it fits your image well. Unfortunately, this was a free study. Those are always judged especially harshly.

My Opinion: I am not an HDR fan as a general rule. The various effects used and the obvious difficulty obtaining good starting images have definitely detracted from your score's potential. As is, I think this one scored accordingly.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

Nice macro.

Nice spider and web action. Moving subjects are not easy, nor plausible, subjects for multiple HDR exposure blending.

Nice details on this gal, and grabby greens in the back.

Absolutely fantastic macro shot. Just wish the area a bit south of the spider was in a little more focus. But maybe you wanted this effect. God luck! 6

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:

1 - Not HDR in my opinion

3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion

5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion

7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion

10 - A fantastic use of HDR, and an out of this world photo, in my opinion
