The message
The title says it all. It is certainly possible to make interesting photos from mundane objects, and there are many ways to add meaning to a picture. But this photo doesn't say anything to me; it is just a stove.
Creative choices
Lighting is a very important factor in photography, and the lighting here is unflattering. The knobs (which are the center of focus here) are lit only indirectly, except for some glare on the top. The narrow DOF does add some interest here, although as other have pointed out, weakens its connection to the challenge.
Technical aspects
Focus and sharpness are great. Exposure is fine too; shadow detail is lost, but I attribute that to lighting. So I don't see any technical problems with this photo. |

| OK- there are three knobs, but I'm betting you not in contention for a ribbon. The main issue is that it IS just a stove- not much interest for the voters. The diagonal composition is nice, but the third knob is out of focus (so the viewer's attention is on two things, not three), and the light is too harsh, so you're losing detail in both the shadows and highlights. |
