 I didn't have any good ideas for this challenge and then I looked at these Kirk & Spock figures on my desk. It occurred to me that Spam could make a good Horta and Spock's hand was outstretched just right for this scene from "Devil in the Dark".

I scraped the Spamâ„¢ with a spoon while looking at a picture of the Horta. My "Horta" ended up being not quite as lumpy as in the show, but, hey, it's Spamâ„¢! The cave wall is a crumpled paper bag, and the ground is potting soil on top of a pizza box. (I should have packed the soil down some, but I'm not going to redo the shot for that) I wanted to find some ball bearings to use as the Horta's eggs, but could not find any around the house.

This turned out pretty close to what I had visualized.

Pre-challenge notes:
My humorous entries in serious challenges tend to bomb, so I'll see how it goes when people are expecting humor. It's totally ridiculous, and I have no idea how this will do in voting, but I love it.

Post-challenge notes:
Placed respectably, especially for one of my weird humorous entries. I attribute this to the Spam challenge being one where humor was already expected. 3 faves in a challenge (a record for me) and Liberty's award makes this one of my most successful entries. This entry hit it's target audience.

lol I remember this episode the first time I saw it. Great setup and this should have scored a 6 or better.

Dude! If there is one sentinel moment that first comes to my mind when I think original Star Trek, it's Spock mind melding with the rock. I LOVE IT!!!

If I'd been voting, I wouldn't have known what was going on - I have no idea what the Horta is.
