I loved shooting for the Architectural IV challenge so I thought I would use this challenge to inspire me to shoot more buildings as well. I had a shot I took for the architecture challenge of this building and I like the look of it but unfortunately it was taken one day too soon so I went back downtown at 6 am to get some terrific light in the early morning. (God only knows what kind of light I would have had a 5 am when the sun came up!)

From Wikipedia:
Bankers Hall is a building complex located in downtown Calgary, Alberta, which includes twin 52-storey office towers (197 metres high), designed by the architectural firm Cohos Evamy in postmodern architectural style.

In Lightroom 2 I used the sepia preset then used adjustments in the grayscale part of the develop module to darken the sky a bit. I also adjusted did adjustments to levels, contrast and clarify plus I added a vignette in the end before exporting the image as a TIFF. In PSP XI I resized and did a USM before the final export to JPG.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: the style of the building, sepia and pov combine to make it look like an opening shot for a Dick Tracy movie. Very atmospheric. Had I voted, an 8.

Technical: You used ambient light and the few shadows you did get just enchance the shot and scale of the building. Composition might be called stark by some, but I find it achingly simple.

Artistic: Good for you, having the discipline to get downtown and get this shot at 6 a.m. with the golden light! Seeing how high you scored it seems to have paid off. I am very fond of this extreme pov, so bonus points for that :-)

Overall: Not familiar with Lightroom, but whatever you did clearly works, and all the pp in the world will not save a poor shot. Again, a lovely image, I am a bit disappointed by the lack of comments, but perhaps voters were Architecture'd out.

Feel free to pm me with any questions,

Susan
