Had to enter something. Far from good and even farther from 'the best.' Only had, literally, one CF card to choose from. Long story not worth boring you with.

[Mar. 11th, 2009 09:11:51 PM]

Ok, so this was a totally random, candid, spur of the moment shot. My wife and I were in a little cafe in Shelburne Falls, Ma and this guy walks in. I rarely, if ever, take photos of people and even more rare for me is to just take shots in a public place of people I don't know. So we were sitting waiting for our orders and he walks in. When he sat down I just picked up the camera and pointed it in his direction. I clicked 6 shots, this was the only one in focus. I thought of processing the background, but decided against it since in my mind there was nothing I could do about it. He had no idea his picture was being taken or if he did, he did not care.

Anyone notice what is in his pocket? On my monitor I can read it clearly - Sweets. That means 'Swisher Sweets.'

I really like this shot. The title says right..."just coffee"...but there's something in this shot which is really cool! I wish the background were less "busy" and his face had more focus. Good luck and sorry for my english.

Well composed. I would prefer it without the two front chairs and may be a version in BW.

Good portrait, nice job capturing him in his environment.

Hehe, good emotion. Extending the depth of field and moving it forward so the background is still out of focus, but his hand, face and coffee mug aren't may be a better touch. 5

He looks like he's ready to go home. Unless he is home already, then he looks like he's ready to go to bed.

Very pensive looking character. He doesn't look to happy about something. The economic crisis perhaps? Nice colorful shirt.

Don't assume that because you have an affinity for your subject, the rest of the world will too. Otherwise, a good workmanlike photo.

Reading the paper while drinking coffee; a lot of us do it. I like the subject and his pose however I wish the background was not as distracting.

nice candid but i find the frame a little busy and as such confusing. If you shifted to the left it might have been a better images as the background on the left is a little distracting to me where as the background on the right is a bit simpler. The focus is great though!

He plopped the spoon into his mug, and gave it a stir.

Another day, another coffee. Another day at work, but for how long? Another morning of the same old routine, but how many more would there be? He wasn't young anymore, and this job had been his rock for so many years. It had seen him through good times and bad. It had seen him through the raising of his children, through his marriage, through 4 houses and 5 dogs and one summer cottage and everything in between and now he was told that the company probably just couldn't afford to keep so many people anymore and although he'd put almost 20 years into the place and had an immaculate attendance record they said that they couldn't guarantee anyone would be spared and what was he going to do if they laid him off there was nowhere else to go and what was he going to tell his wife they couldn't do this to him could they it wasn't right why did this have to happen now what was wrong with this WORLD!?

He stirred his coffee again and sighed, and plunked the spoon down on the napkin by his side and pretended to read the paper.

Just another day.

Wonderfully "every day" with the added twist that it appears the coffee hasn't quite done the trick for him yet.

nice candid, but i would prefer the bottom to be cropped to the surface of the table. the trasparent shapes are distracting from the image.

A little dull for me as a portrait. Kind of snapshotish but the fact that he looks asleep keeps it interesting.
