brilliant. a shot of adrenalin.
05/27/2009 05:17:04 PM
Awesome in every way!
05/27/2009 11:30:19 AM
The most beautiful horse shot I have EVER seen!!
03/18/2009 04:23:21 PM
This was one of my few 9's. The crop is fine, the exposure is just right, the tilted horizon adds to the crazed atmosphere perfectly, etc. ;) funny how about half and half of the commenters seemed to either like or dislike the crop. I love the abandonment, the power, and the grace you captured, the rich contrasts, and the burnished gold color of the horse's coat.... this is a gorgeous, gorgeous photo, and I truely wish it had gotten a better score. :)

Such a dynamic pic and the crop, to me is perfect... it speaks of raw, unrestrained power and the fact that the horse is tied and just wants to be FREE.

LOVE it and most definitely was misunderstood.

It is sure difficult to capture horses. I would have liked to see the head completely. The action capture is good. Lighting could have been better
03/17/2009 05:31:28 PM
More on top would help.
03/17/2009 05:23:20 PM
simply exhilarating.
03/17/2009 12:36:58 PM
Great stop-action capture! 7
03/17/2009 12:13:58 PM
Beautiful tones, background, feel, power. Wish the head wasn't cut off though, my eye is drawn to that point.
03/17/2009 09:36:44 AM
whoa, Intense!
03/17/2009 08:18:45 AM
This could have been such a powerful and wonderful shot. I love the processing too but it's such a pity that you chopped the top part of the horses head off and the crop around the horses hoofs in the bottom right hand corner is too tight and the one rear leg's hoof is also chopped off a bit.
03/17/2009 06:31:08 AM
Dramatic image, like the palette you've used.. +1
03/17/2009 06:22:17 AM
Whoa, this is really neat, a great capture of power and motion and great manipulation of color.
03/17/2009 06:15:05 AM
Voted earlier coming back to comment. I keep seeing this in the line-up of scored uncommented images and my eye keeps coming back to it. There is just *something* eye-catching and interesting that I can't quite put my finger on. The colors of the horse contrast dynamically and darkly against the backdrop which really draws our my eye to the horse. I guess what I really find interesting that my eye is captured every time is that action that is caught here. The composition is shot as a straight on horizon shot yet the horse is running at the diagonal...the hooves run right into the bottom right corner. I hear the thundering hooves, the muscles ripple & move as they propel this noble spirit....oh...I believe that must be it! The appeal is the action and motion and grace of this horse that is captured here in the composition.

Wonderful feeling of power and grace.
03/17/2009 02:08:14 AM
It looks like you're put a lot of effort into the PP and it works. I'm not convinced by the crop at the top, but it does add to the feeling of movement.

9 for this pic.
03/16/2009 07:59:46 PM
Beautiful shot. Love your processing.
03/16/2009 07:46:44 PM
Interesting crop and edit. I think it adds to the sense of being frightened and trying to escape.
03/16/2009 11:10:38 AM
Not sure if I like the crop cutting off the top of the head.
03/16/2009 07:52:29 AM
Terrific action shot but just a little too tightly cropped
03/16/2009 06:59:37 AM
Great image. Well done.
03/15/2009 07:45:55 PM
This is so utterly, vibrantly aggressive it's almost scary. VERY well done. I don't know if the cropping through the horse's head was intentional or happenstance, but it's extremely effective.
03/15/2009 06:43:16 PM
Great capture
03/15/2009 04:25:47 PM
What a fascinating way to show this. Fascinating effect.
03/15/2009 04:05:20 PM
great picture like the darkness, but if viewer could see the eyes might be stronger and i wish the background was a little more level
03/15/2009 02:39:18 PM
Neat idea. I'm not sure about the crop, however. since it's very close to the top of the head, it almost seems like you should crop even lower to make it obvious that it's what you meant to do. Feels a bit awkward there.
03/15/2009 12:54:48 PM
I absolutely love this off-beat composition, it goes so well with the moody tones. Just an all around wonderful photograph!
03/15/2009 12:45:01 PM
Not sure about the cropping here, but a nice shot all the same.
03/15/2009 11:34:56 AM
The crop really bothers me here, whilst on the one hand I can see the dynamic you was going for, on the other hand a bit of my mind is screaming "but it just doesnt work!!"..
Sweet processing and nice action though.. this shot REALLY stands out amongst all the thumbnails.

Darn! I wish his head weren't cut off. *sigh*

Great capture of the motion... the dust ... and I like the processing.

Not voting yet.
03/15/2009 09:44:35 AM
I like the dark feel of this but don't like the head crop
03/15/2009 08:31:15 AM
Wonderful action shot. The cool tones really enhance the mood.
03/15/2009 08:12:35 AM
Nice shot. I like the tones and the action.
03/15/2009 08:01:28 AM
That's something else. Not sure I love your processing with the lighter areas/haloing around the horse and I wish the head weren't cut off. But the photo has energy.
03/15/2009 05:39:58 AM
Nice action shot, the only downside is the top of the horses head is cut off.
03/15/2009 01:12:04 AM
wow this ones great

I am loving the angle, framing/crop, contrast and the colours. I have been looking at the ribs on that horse and think that says a lot about the horse and adds much to the image. It also looks like you clicked just when the horse wanted you to.

I love horse photographs, especially when they are about the horse rather than simply of the horse. One of the ways to achieve that is to crop it (or compose it) so that we don't see the whole of the horse. It somehow has the effect of getting the viewer beneath the surface; into the muscles and tendons and even the motivation of the horse. Maybe it's just because such a crop is unexpected that it liberates our imagination a bit more. Just like this. 8.

the crop and processing really help to emphasize the power of this animal. Good work.
03/14/2009 12:18:49 PM
FABULOUS! There is so much power in this shot. The tether really balances the tilted position of the horse, the colors are terrific, the background desaturated to perfection. A fave!!!
03/14/2009 10:13:41 AM
great shot....just wish i could see the top of the head and the ears...
03/14/2009 08:42:24 AM
a very powerful image IMO and I love the bold cropping. 8
03/14/2009 05:59:47 AM
such beautiful colors and tones...just wish you had all the head (or a little less...just above the nose)
03/14/2009 05:04:00 AM
Great sense of power in this.
03/14/2009 04:36:33 AM
image with purpose.
03/13/2009 11:12:39 PM
Looks like a golden horse! Nice post processing.
03/13/2009 09:47:26 PM
Gorgeous! Love the tone and composition, one of my favs so far!
03/13/2009 07:51:51 PM
frickin awesome. i don't know how you feel about the crop. i know how dpc feels about the crop.

the crop makes the shot. 10

wow, what a unique photo. Its gorgeous.
03/13/2009 06:08:34 PM
I really enjoy the bronze tones of the horse..a sculpture in action.
03/13/2009 03:46:59 PM
I must confess, I didn't really like this at first pass, but it is growing on me. The head being cut off was a little bothersome to me visually. However, I am beginning to see the power in the photo. I've bumped it twice and will do so again for the pure energy caught up in it.

03/13/2009 11:15:14 AM
the post processing does add to this shot
03/13/2009 11:04:10 AM
I'm not typically a fan of horses or photos of them, but I really like this one. You created such a dynamic image with your composition and processing. I feel like I have insight into the mind of this particular animal at this particular moment in time.

03/13/2009 09:53:13 AM
this is a piece of art...love everything about it
03/13/2009 07:35:12 AM
Interesting choice of crop. The colors and post processing here work well with the image. Composition leads the eye through nicely, but something seems missing for me to make this image great.

03/13/2009 06:07:02 AM
Awesome capture. I find the crop a little awkward as it cuts through the horses head right near his/her eyes.
03/13/2009 04:19:04 AM
i liked this but i wouldn't recommend cropping the horse's head from the top.
03/13/2009 03:43:58 AM
get a real sense of this horses power from this
03/13/2009 12:05:13 AM
I like the way you've framed this to cut off feet and head, it seems to add to the interest and makes us think about more than just the horse in the scene
03/12/2009 08:40:17 PM
raw dynamic energy 9
03/12/2009 05:40:36 PM
I can feel the horse flying at me! There is so much energy in this. I think the editing is effective as well.
03/12/2009 03:55:42 PM
Coming back to comment...

Awesome action shot! Love the dark processing, the raw power just flows in this shot! 10
03/12/2009 03:04:26 PM
Very dramatic, you can sense the power in the animal.
03/12/2009 02:25:56 PM
Dramatic high energy photo. On my calibrated monitor, the horse is pretty dark. If it were lighter, I could see better the definition of muscle and coat.

03/12/2009 12:30:20 PM
amazing shot!
03/12/2009 11:48:42 AM
nice powerful image
03/12/2009 09:09:55 AM
Great capture of the action.
03/12/2009 08:38:35 AM
Look out! hahah. Nice stop action and love the editing!
03/12/2009 06:09:15 AM
Awesome capture. I'm not quite sold on the crop though - it just leaves me wanted a few more pixels at the top - or possibly a few less. It's as if the horses eyes don't add this So I either want more of the head or less of the head. Just my 3 cents. Well worth an 8.

Wow, fantastic capture.9
03/11/2009 05:53:17 PM
Very cool shot. Like the color work. Fence seems just a little tilted...
03/11/2009 05:50:44 PM
wow, the chopped off head reallly bugs me, but it actually seems to add to the restrained theme by perhaps suggesting that he is indeed breaking free from the photo. cool processing as well
03/11/2009 04:06:42 PM
I like your tight crop, and the angle created by the horse... give a strong sense of motion.
03/11/2009 03:38:47 PM
Very interesting lines and colors, I wish I could see a bit more of its eyes, but overall very good.
03/11/2009 01:57:15 PM
great shot.. wish the whole head was in the pic.
03/11/2009 01:42:53 PM
perfect timing, would like to see the whole head!
03/11/2009 12:48:42 PM
I like how you separated the horse from the background.
03/11/2009 10:57:37 AM
Beautiful, Just Beautiful.
03/11/2009 10:50:02 AM
I love the tones in this image. I really wish the top of the head was not cut off.

Very nice sense of action and I like the crop...
03/10/2009 11:30:17 PM
pity you missed the whole face i do like the pp effect tho
03/10/2009 10:55:28 PM
OH WOW!

This is an amazing image - just LOVE the movement, love the legs in the right hand corner.

The ears chopped off do bother me, I may have even considered cropping to the cop of the jump behind.

But you are an artist - so who am I to tell you what to do - FABULOUS!
03/10/2009 10:47:13 PM
awesome, looks like tis going to run you down, hope this does well!
03/10/2009 10:02:30 PM
I love everything about this except for the crop at the top.. I would have cropped lower or higher. Effects used are primo!
03/10/2009 09:41:03 PM
the crop and processing are great -8
03/10/2009 09:05:34 PM
I love the DOF and the diagonal line created by the tilt of the horse as he runs.
03/10/2009 08:56:31 PM
cropped a bit too tight to me
