 I thought I'd test out my ( at the time ) new camera by using a subject in complete darkness with a permanently moving light source.

For a natural light portrait, taken at night (so it appears anyway), this shot is good. The fire, and her expression are the strengths of this shot.

I like this, I like the use of just the firelight, give it a warm glow that doesn't detract from the subject like additonal lighting might.

Interesting. While I'm not positive that this started as a study in natural light, I asked myself a few questions about what I would do if I were shooting in your position and had total control over everything and this is pretty much it. I wouldn't have gone through that process if I hadn't seen this pic and it hadn't been called that, so... thats good.
