A croc shot for my Hidden Gems !! I hope to be the only person to submit such a shot.
Well 2 reasons why I submitted this , I could have submitted nice shots of Bald Eagles , White Tigers , Chimps , etc.
1. Uniqueness
2. Curious as to how it will score
I do not think this can break 7 , 6.5 will also be tough, so I would be really happy if the shot can hit 6.4+

Andrew ..... 06Mar 2009
-------------------------------------
Wow !!! I could not believe how the score climbed in the last 12 hours (it went up 0.1).
I am estactic that this did so well, I always liked it , so thanks for all the votes and the spectacular comments.

By the way , the croc was in a glass enclosure, so I was very safe. This guy was inquisitive and was slowly approaching me. Glad I had the macro lens and started snapping away. The only difficulty was that I had to be as steady as possible as I had no tripod or monopod with me.

Voted earlier coming back to leave comments now. HOLY COW talk about getting up close and personal!!! Geez! That is about as close as I want to get to this gator. Even though it makes most uncomfortable with the proximity, one can't help but appreciate the details in this reptiles eye. I never knew that there was such interesting patterns within. I also want to mention that you captured some wonderful detail in the skin that shows off all the rough scaly texture perfectly. Now the critique (Ah, man does she have to be so picky!!:-) ) is that it might be a little too close in that it is becoming more of an abstract or exporation of shapes and textures rather than a really cool close-up of an animal. I think those details could still be played up like they are here but just pulll back a tad to get a bit more of the mouth or even some teeth to further strengthen the identity of the animal being captured on 'film'.

Great contrast in the skin against the soft lighting on the water. You've held it right on the limit of sharpening when it would have been easy to just overdo it. Very well seen.
