Tilted challenge 2-29-08; from "oscarthepig"; "Pop-Art Piggy ready......". I built on their them of an angled subject (looked like some kind of hairy bird thing....).

I took this at Fulton Illinois. There were 100's of eagles fishing just downstream of the lock and dam #13. It was a nice sunny day - and this was one of my fav. captures.

*Hello form the Critique Club*

First Impression: wow that’s a really big bird! A good shot of the bird there is no doubt about that and a capture you can be very proud of.

Composition /Background: I think this part is the biggest flaw of the photograph, it’s composition dosen’t have that wow factor needed to pop it up, it’s a bit to centered and the sky is some what grainy. A basic rule of thirds might have worked in your favor here or maybe trying to crop a little bit closer in on the bird.

Post Processing: This is a shot that surely dose not need much post processing but I think slightly more contrast would have made it that bit better. And again I’m not sure about the crop of the image, either to tight or not tight enough.

Challenge: Some people in here are very strict on meeting the challenge, since the brown ribbon you base on is an image of a guinea pig and you submit an eagle.. I think that might be the source of most of your under 5’s. In challenges that refer to other images I believe it’s better to put the original image id in brackets in your title to help voters find it.

Overall: People here on DPC are used to such unbelievable eagle close-ups, images you can’t imagine how the photographer was able to shoot. Your photo is a very good shot of a really beautiful animal, but voters have seen a better one and are there for very quick to judge.

I personally would have given it a 8, but if I take the brown ribbon in to count then 7.

Happy shooting :)

Sorry I could not find the brown on which you based this. I searched for "tilted" and "looking for prey" but found it not.
Dont worry, I still think yours is a super capture. Beautifully shot with nice detail in the bird. Lovely composition too with his wings outstretched like that. A little niggle is that there is a bit of noise in the sky which detracts a little bit. 7
