This is a photo of Skywest 5672, a Brazillia enroute to San Francisco, CA on departure taken from the air traffic control tower at the Fresno/Yosemite Int'l Airport. Skyrockets were being launched at departing airlines! I thought Al-Quaeda was at the end of the runway! The explosion at the ground level was a skyrocket that malfunctioned. There were two others launched before I could set up the camera, that came within 100 feet of the airliners that were targeted (EagleFlight 50 and Air Shuttle 2776) as they were climbing out of 2000 feet MSL. Who was launching these skyrockets? Members of the Fresno Police Department! They were supposed to be training their dogs and horses with small firecrackers in the training yard off the end of the runways. This photo made the ABC30 local news, I was interviewed, the reporter received a journalism award for the story, and no one was prosecuted. Go figure.

Not my "photographic best", but my most famous. It made the TV ABC News here in Fresno, CA, and I was interviewed. I thought it would be used in court, but the District Attorney either wasn't aware of it, was never told of it, can't or won't prosecute. She would have if a citizen was launching those explosives at the airlines!

the lines of the runway and the lights of the plane reaching up provide a nice border for the image - but i wish there was a main subject to really hold my attention

Oh, come on. This could not be your best shot of the year. I could not see any details. I don't get what the photograpgerr wants to communicate. Sorry, doesn't work for me.

From the title, I presume the dark tubular diagonal with red spots is an airliner during a long exposure. Wish the fireworks part could be more graphic.

For some reason I am really intrigued by this shot. Wonderfully well done. I might suggest just cropping a bit off the left, but otherwise some special here.
