I don't think I really belong in "The Masters" - just had a couple of lucky shots but it is nice to be invited all the same.
This is a homage to all those heart shapes produced with books pages folded, most recently inspired by IreneM and to all those who produce great waterdrop images. As ever, bereft of imagination, I fall back on borrowing ideas from others!
I shot the book heart as an exercise but could not offer it as an entry because it was too like, at least in composition, Irene's superb shot in Heart II. Then I thought I might be able to use it as a backdrop to a waterdrop shot. DoF was a challenge but it seemed to work for me. I used my beambreaker and a similar setup to Homage to Jacko & Rackat - the tutorial is still in the Learn section.
Processing was largely done in ACR 5.1. I cleaned up a couple of stray droplets and a couple of bubbles, used the post crop vignette (crop to straighten a smidgeon), tweaked the exposure, clarity, sharpness and converted to PS, where I used Neatimge a bit, smart sharpened, resized and saved for the web. I also did a selective boost to the saturation in the heart shape.
I have no idea whether or not this will appeal but I had fun doing it and I love my new 50D.

The original inspiration.
My attempt at emulation.
My final interpretation, used as the background for this entry. |

Hate Waterdrops. Never saw the point after I saw the first one. |

perfect timing , perfect focus. if only the white line on the left was not there , would have been perfect. 8 |

you might want to experiment with some more engaging colors, now that you have proven your technical abilities. |

outstanding macro work - love the sweeping lines of the background to counteract the sharpness of the drops |

What impresses me most about this image is how clean the glass is....not a drop of water on it, no smudges at all. Attention to detail is amazing. |

Dang, that drop looks just a tiny bit blurred. Nice composition though. Nice colors as well. I could give this an 8 other than that blur. I'd also have cloned that little air bubble at the edge of the glass. 7 |
